LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The UNLV football team will kick off its 2020 season in the new Allegiant Stadium in August.
The Mountain West Conference released the Rebels 12-game schedule on Thursday, headlined by an opening game against the California Bears at the new stadium on Aug. 29.
First-year head coach Marcus Arroyo will lead the Rebels against Cal in what's the school's first time hosting the Pac-12 Conference member.
A week later, Louisiana Tech will then visit Las Vegas for the first time since 1994, and another Pac-12 program Arizona State will play in Vegas the following week on Sept. 12.
"The first word that jumps to my mind is 'challenging,'" said Arroyo about a schedule that includes a school-record-tying nine teams coming off bowl trips. "Our pre-conference season is the most demanding in the Mountain West," said coach Arroyo. "However, we see it as an opportunity to move this program forward and firmly establish our own footprint on the West Coast."
UNLV opens its MW opponent play against San Diego State on Oct. 3 and then Wyoming at home on Oct. 10 before traveling to San Jose State Oct. 17.
Colorado State plays in Las Vegas for the first time since 2016 on Oct. 24, and then UNLV travels to Boise State for a Halloween date with the Broncos.
The Rebels head to Hawai'i for their road finale on Nov. 14 and wrap up the regular season with the annual "Battle for the Fremont Cannon" against UNR on Nov. 28.
