LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Advocates, doctors, lawmakers, and Metro Police gathered at UMC Friday to kick off a period known nationally as the 100 Deadliest Days.

It’s the stretch between Memorial day and Labor Day that started as a marker for the most dangerous time of year for teen drivers.

But the open road can become dangerous for anyone at any time, at any age.

Metro Police Traffic Bureau Captain Jarvis Dudley did say there is some hope in the data, as officers have been working to educate drivers of cars, motorcycles and e-devices.

“We’re now 25 fatalities less than last year. That number represents family members, sons, daughters, mothers, children, that are spending times with their families now,” he said.

But not everyone comes home.

Kelly Dodder lost her husband Jordon in a motorcycle crash on April 9, 2025, after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign.

“It’s truly a nightmare to live the life I live now,” she said.

Dodder shared the heartbreaking ritual of putting her and Jordon’s daughter Luna to bed each night, one that she’s now doing herself. “Every night when I put her to bed, she just cries and asks for her dad,” she said.

She’s now using her pain to push for safer driving on roads in our valley.

“We live at such a fast pace that we forget that it's not just about us anymore. We need to slow down, look twice before every lane change and turn, stay off our phones, pay attention, start caring about others again. Carelessness on our roads can change,” said Dodder.
