LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A teenage girl accused of stabbing multiple horses at a Las Vegas barrel racing competition on Saturday will remain in custody without bail.
Channel 13 was in court on Thursday morning for the hearing. A local hearing master said she believed the girl was a public safety risk and ordered her to remain in custody.
The girl faces 12 charges of animal cruelty and three counts of destruction of property.
On June 2, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson announced his office would seek to have the 17-year-old tried as an adult.
During a June 4 court hearing, the hearing master did not rule on whether to certify the teen's case to adult court.
She was brought back to court on July 8, where again, a hearing on her certification to adult court was continued and no determination was made. She is expected back in court on August 19.
Because she is not being tried as an adult and has not been publicly named by local authorities, Channel 13 has chosen not to release the full name of the teenage suspect at this time.
