After the game
The Las Vegas Aces are looking for a clean sweep of the Phoenix Mercury after defeating the team 90-88 to go ahead three games to none in the best-of-seven series in a nailbiter that came down to the final seconds.
The team was led by another record-breaking performance. This time, it was A'ja Wilson's turn.
WATCH | Tonight's epic game recap
Wilson set a new WNBA record for the most total points in an individual postseason as well as the most combined steals and blocks in a single postseason run.
She also scored over 30 points tonight, becoming the 18th player in WNBA history to do so during a Finals game.
Teammate Jackie Young became the 17th player to do so with Sunday's performance in Game 2.
At the end of the first quarter, the game looked evenly matched with the Aces leading the Mercury 26 to 23.
However, Las Vegas started to pull away by going on a 7-0 run in the first 45 seconds of the second quarter.
Another run later in the quarter gave the Aces a commanding 55-43 lead over the Mercury heading into halftime.
While Las Vegas held the lead for most of the game, Phoenix was not done fighting.
In the fourth quarter, the Mercury clawed their way back, going on a 24 to 8 scoring run, due in large part to Kahleah Copper.
They tied it up with less than two minutes left in the game, after a three-pointer from DeWanna Bonner.
With both teams trading the lead back and forth, it came down to the final five seconds. That's when Wilson was able to score the winning shot.
Both teams are back in action on Friday for Game 4.
If the Aces win, it will be their third title in four years.
Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. and you can watch the game on ESPN.

After going up 2-0 in the series, the Aces are looking for their first Finals Game 3 victory in franchise history, after dropping Games 3 in 2008, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
After going 3 of 13 from the field against Phoenix in Game 1 for 10 points, Jackie Young bounced back in Game 2, tripling her point production with a game-high 32 on 60% shooting and was just two rebounds shy of her third career playoff double-double.
She tallied 21 points in the third quarter alone, which set a WNBA Finals record for most points scored in a quarter in a Finals game. Further, she nearly tripled the number of points as the next player, who notched 8 in the period.
A'ja Wilson posted her 25th postseason double-double on Sunday with 28 points on 56.5% shooting to go with 14 rebounds. The Aces are now 13-1 when Wilson scores at least 25 points in a playoff game.
Chelsea Gray’s assist game continues to take off in the playoffs. She dished out 10 assists each contest in back-to-back Finals games.
Phoenix relied on its core 3 of Kahleah Copper, Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas once again in Game 2, with the trio combining for 55 of the team’s 78 points.
Game 3 is slated for Wednesday, Oct. 8, with tipoff at 5 p.m. on ESPN.
