LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A Red Flag Warning from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. is in effect as the combination of afternoon winds and dry air comes together to yield an elevated fire threat.

The maximum breezes in the valley will hit 25 mph but in the mountains 35 mph gusts are possible.

Afternoon relative humidity values should drop to 10% so any small fires could spread quickly.

While the winds today won't be nearly as strong as they were on Sunday when the Mahogany Fire started, everyone should be cautious with respect to cigarette butts, grills and outdoor flames, and trailer hitches and chains.

Similar breezes are expected on Thursday afternoon, so we may have a repeated threat on Thursday.
