Resident Jim Abernethy has called Southern Nevada home for more than 20 years. His strolls around the park now come with a bit of worry these days.

"I’m scared to death to ride up north by Centennial where all those shootings have taken place. I won't go there anymore and there are nice bike trails I wish I could go to,” Abernethy said.

In November, North Las Vegas has seen its share of senseless violence.

On the first day of the month, an innocent 11-year-old was killed by suspected gang members who police said targeted the wrong home near Deer Springs Way and Losee Road.
