Fire safety tips offered at Las Vegas Fire open house

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A fire safety open house at Las Vegas Fire and Rescue aims to help people survive dangerous blazes in homes during Fire Prevention Week on the heels of three significant fires in the valley in one week that killed two people and seriously hurt three others.

Two people, Renai Palmer and her 6-year-old son Gavin died at the hospital following a house fire near Cimarron and Oakey Tuesday morning, one person was seriously injured during an abandoned office fire Monday near Sahara, and two people were taken to the hospital with critical burns following a house fire near Jones and the 95 Friday.

The open house runs from 9 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 6 at 1680 S. Torrey Pines Drive.

Fire fighters urge people to develop a fire emergency plan with their families so they will be ready in the event of an emergency.
