LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — An elementary school employee with the Clark County School District has been arrested and is being accused of battery and child abuse, the district announced.
District officials say the arrest stems from an investigation that began on Monday, April 27.
CCSD's police department arrested 65-year-old Lisa Harris, a specialized programs teacher assistant at Dr. Claude G. Perkins Elementary School.
New information in an arrest report obtained by Channel 13 shows the alleged incident happened around dismissal time for special education students at the school. Police spoke to a witness and mentioned they've gathered surveillance video as evidence.
Records show "Harris is observed leaning in close to [the victim] and using her left arm to reach under his right armpit area. Immediately [the victim] reacts by moving his right arm in a manner consistent with a pain response."
The victim is believed to be nonverbal with down syndrome.
Officials note Harris has been employed by the district since 2000. She has been placed on unpaid leave.
Harris was being held on a $7,000 bond. She made her initial appearance in court at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28.
Court records indicate she posted bail and has her next appearance on May 28.
