NORTH LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Multiple schools in North Las Vegas were placed on lockdown Thursday morning as police responded to a suspect who was possibly armed.
This is a developing situation, but Channel 13 has learned that North Las Vegas Police responded to the area near Legacy High School on reports of a possible armed individual.
Police tell us nearby schools were placed on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution" while officers searched for the individual.
The lockdown included Legacy High School and nearby Northeast Career and Technical Academy. Parents told Channel 13 students were being let out of school at their normal dismissal time.
Other nearby schools include Ruby Duncan Elementary School and Don E. Hayden Elementary School, though we do not have confirmation that these schools were included in the lockdown.
As of 12:30 p.m., police have said their investigation in the area is ongoing. In an initial email confirming the investigation, the North Las Vegas Police Department did not say whether any arrests had been made.
"At this time, the situation has been contained and there is no known ongoing threat to the public," a police department spokesperson wrote. "The investigation remains active and additional details are still being gathered."
