LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A grand jury has indicted a driver on felony charges in connection with a crash that killed a 23-year-old pedestrian in Las Vegas.

Daniel Stakleff faces two felony counts: driving under the influence resulting in death and reckless driving causing death or substantial bodily harm.

Prosecutors say Stakleff was under the influence of THC — with a reported seven times the legal limit in his system — when he crashed near Warm Springs Road and Torrey Pines Drive on May 6, killing 23-year-old Joree Odabi.

The indictment alleges Stakleff failed to pay attention and drove off the roadway onto a sidewalk where Odabi was walking. Investigators state they found marijuana vape pens in Stakleff's car after the collision.

Stakleff appeared in court on Wednesday, Aug. 6, for his initial arraignment on those charges, but the case has instead been pushed back another week.

Family speaks out after deadly DUI case is delayed in court

Odabi's family tells Channel 13 they're frustrated by delays in the case.

"It's just delay after delay, and they're just doing everything to keep him out of prison," said Odabi's mother, Valerie. "I have to deal with it every single day that I don't have a child; I don't have my son."

Originally, Stakleff's bail was set at just $5,000, sparking widespread outrage. Nearly two months later, Judge Joe Bonaventure raised it to $50,000. Still, Odabi's family says the delayed decision wasn't nearly enough.

Stakleff is expected back in court next week.
