Weekend 1: Big League Weekend at the Las Vegas Ballpark

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Oakland Athletics defeated the Cleveland Indians, 8-5, on Sunday afternoon in the finale of the Big League Weekend two-game series before a crowd of 7,521 at Las Vegas Ballpark.

The A’s also defeated the Indians, 8-6, on Saturday and the two-day attendance total was 15,680.

Oakland built a 7-0 lead after 2 ½ innings. Left-hander Jesus Luzardo (A’s Top Prospect by Baseball America) pitched 3.0 scoreless innings and allowed 1 hit, issued no walks and struck out 3.

A’s designated hitter Tony Kemp was 2-for-4, double, two runs scored; center fielder Ramon Laureano was 1-for-1, walk, 2 RBI, run scored and right fielder Dustin Fowler was 1-for-3, walk, double, 3 RBI.

Cleveland shortstop Ernie Clement was 2-for-2, 2 RBI and second baseman Tyler Friis was 2-for-2, double, run scored.

Big League Weekend will continue with the Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs on Saturday-Sunday, March 7-8 at 1:05 p.m. at Las Vegas Ballpark.
