Vegas sportsbook shares college football national title game betting action

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The College Football Playoffs come down to Monday's championship game between the Clemson Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide.

According to oddsmakers, it again should be a competitive matchup between the two championship rivals.

Las Vegas-area sportsbooks opened with Alabama, the defending champ, as a 5.5 point favorite at the end of December. As of Monday afternoon, that number remained the same after seeing slight movement during the first week of January.

William Hill sports book, operator of more than 30 sportsbooks statewide, released updated numbers on Monday pertaining to the championship game.

The book reported a near split of the percentage of tickets wagered on the point spread with 57 percent of the money siding with the Crimson Tide. When it came to the money line, 76 percent of the tickets placed were on Clemson with another 71 percent betting over the posted 57.5 total points in the game.

Both teams enter Monday night undefeated in what is the fifth season of the College Football Playoff with the two matching up for the fourth straight year in the national title game. Alabama currently holds a 2-1 record in those previous matchups.

Also, a $220,000 wager was placed on Alabama with the point spread of five points on Sunday. While a $200,000 bet was placed on Clemson money line on Monday, Both wagers were placed in Nevada, according to William Hill.
