LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Health Plan of Nevada (HPN), joined by special guest Johnathan Abram of the Las Vegas Raiders and Johnathan’s Journey For Better Foundation, today unveiled 90 new Lenovo Yoga 2-in-1 laptops, headsets with microphones, along with three 30-laptop charging stations to support the remote learning needs of students who are members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.
As schools remain closed due to the global pandemic, it’s important that students have access to the vital technology required to participate in their schools’ remote learning effort.
Health Plan of Nevada unveiled the Lenovo laptops to a group of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada students alongside community leaders, elected officials and special guest Johnathan Abram.
“Access to the right technology is essential to support students during this unprecedented pandemic. Health Plan of Nevada is pleased to be able to contribute to the community in this way,” stated Shaun Schoener, Vice President, Sales and Account Management, Health Plan of Nevada. “These are extraordinary times in our local communities and in health care. We remain committed to supporting important efforts that benefit the health and wellness of our members, families and students.”
The $20,000 donation supports the purchase and distribution of 30 new Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 Laptops, headsets with microphones, and 30-laptop charging stations to three (3) local Boys & Girls Clubs.
“When I started Johnathan’s Journey For Better, I wanted to encourage children and families to never be discouraged by the circumstances life has handed them,” stated Johnathan Abram of the Las Vegas Raiders. “I want to thank Health Plan of Nevada for recognizing the specific challenges of remote learning affecting students from Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and rising to the occasion by donating the technology needed to help them succeed this school year. It will take all of us to better this community and this is an important step as I look to spread positivity and real change in my new home of Las Vegas.”
“At the start of the school year, it was estimated that approximately 50,000 children across Southern Nevada did not have access to connectivity or the proper equipment to support their distance learning needs. Without the support of our community partners, like Health Plan of Nevada, we would not be able to support those students with the greatest needs that otherwise would not have access to necessary technology required for virtual learning,” stated Andy Bischel, President/CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada.
