LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The NBA season is right around the corner despite the NBA Finals wrapping up just a couple of months ago.
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat inside the bubble and they will be a favorite once again.
13 Action News Anchor Dave Courvesier spoke with Las Vegas Weekly Assistant Sports Editor Case Keefer on why the NBA rushed to start a new season and what the odds are looking like.
Dave Courvoisier: "So, why did the NBA rush to start its season right after wrapping up the bubble in Orlando and how is it going to affect the betting world?"
Case Keefer: "I know some people are probably turning their eyes. The season just ended like two months ago in Orlando. And the players wanted to wait until MLK Day in January so they had a longer rest, but the owners said we are going to lose a billion dollars if we don't go now."
“The Lakers are the favorite to repeat. You can still get them at +200 around town, which may sound a little but it's still wide open. A lot like the last year. We came into the season all excited because for the first time in a long time anyone could win."
The new issue of Las Vegas Weekly is available Thursday.
