Golden Knights lay ice at practice facility, hold goalie mask design competition

The City National Arena will get ice for the first time Wednesday afternoon. This is the practice facility for the Vegas Golden Knights, located near Downtown Summerlin.

The practice facility will have two rinks.

The facility will be the team's headquarters for practices throughout the season. It will also be home to the Golden Knights training camp and youth hockey programs for girls and boys.

When it's not being used by the team, it will be open to the public. The facility will be open year round.

Crews broke ground on October 5. A week after placing the final beam on the facility's roof, workers laid down 11 miles of piping that will allow the building to maintain its ice surface.

Preseason tickets against the Los Angeles Kings, the Colorado Avalanche, and the San Jose Sharks will go on sale at 8 a.m. on August 11.

At the same time, the National Hockey League team is asking for your help to design a goalie mask.

The "pick's mask contest" is allowing fans to help goal tender Calvin Pickard decide what to paint on his new goalie mask.
