The following is a roundup of breaking news from around the Las Vegas valley.

7:01 P.M.
The North Las Vegas Fire Department said it is investigating a fatal fire at 3209 Orr Avenue, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Belmont Street, where a person has died. No further immediate information was made available.

The Clark County coroner identified the deceased as 73-year-old Diane Scott-Miles. The cause of death is pending.

UPDATE FEB. 14: The fire department says that the fire was started by a portable electric heater that set the victim's bedding on fire. A 74-year-old woman was killed by the fire.

4:38 P.M.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported a vacant house caught fire at 2609 Sierra Madre Drive, near Sahara Avenue and Arville Street. No injuries were reported in the blaze with the cause under investigation.

UPDATE 1:49 P.M.
Las Vegas police say a woman was shot on Maryland Parkway near UNLV shortly before 12:30 p.m. Arriving officers found the injured woman sitting in her car in the parking lot of a bank. The woman told police that a man shot at her when she was in the parking lot of a nearby Jack in the Box. She then drove to the bank parking lot after the incident, she says. The suspect is described as a 35-year-old man. He was last seen wearing black short and a silver t-shirt with a money sign on it.

12:45 P.M.
University Police Services is tweeting about a shooting near Maryland Parkway and Tropicana Avenue near the UNLV campus. They say the shooter is a white male and wearing jeans and silver shirt. Police is saying that there is connection between the victim and shooter. No arrests have been made at this time. It is not believed that there is a threat to the campus.

6:30 A.M.
Interstate 15 southbound near Sahara Avenue is heavily backed up due to a crash in the area. I-15 is down to one lane. Plan for extra time on your commute.

1:41 A.M.
Las Vegas police say officers responded to a crash involving a man who was hit by a vehicle while trying to cross the street near Flamingo Road and Arville Street. Police believe he was outside of a marked crosswalk when he was hit. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. The man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

12:31 A.M.
Police say officers responded to reports of a shooting near Ann Road and Rio Vista Street (near the US-95) overnight. The caller said the suspects shot at him while driving eastbound. Authorities found the possible suspect vehicle. Nevada Highway Patrol joined efforts. The suspect vehicle tried to drive away and NHP chased the car, which drove to North Las Vegas and crashed into a house on Summit Creek, police say. The investigation remains ongoing. READ MORE
