Police release bodycam, helicopter footage of chase, deadly shooting on Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police have identified Mattew Patton as the man who died during a shooting involving the department on Tuesday night.

Police say Patton was pulled over for almost crashing into another car near the Strip, on Joe W. Brown and Karen Avenue.

During the stop, officers learned Patton has a Felony Warrant out of Utah noting he was a violent sexual offender and should be considered armed and dangerous and had violent tendencies.

Officers asked Patton to get our of his car multiple times. Body camera footage shown during the presser shows Patton refusing to exit.

The department says officers negotiated with him for about 10 minutes.

Eventually, police say he tried to escape and drove away, prompting a chase, which ended with the deadly shooting near Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue.

This morning, the officers involved in the shooting were identified as Officer Gregory Hilton, Officer Francisco Mazon, Officer Shaun Ward, and Officer Nicholas Grazioso.
