At one point, police say the vehicle turned onto Las Vegas Boulevard from Sahara Avenue, where officers were able to stop the vehicle.

Once stopped, police say the driver left the car and ran down the street with a knife. Officers chased him and told him to stop running, which he allegedly disregarded.

Police say the man turned towards officers and ran towards them armed with the knife. That's when the officers then shot and hit the man, the department says. It is not clear how many officers fired their weapons at this time.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the coroner's office.
