The dog, now being called Klondike, was abandoned outside the Nevada SPCA shelter amid extreme heat on July 11.
On Wednesday morning, Clark County Animal Protective Services confirmed they had tracked down the person and issued them a citation for animal abandonment and deprivation of water and shelter. APS did not release the identity of the individual.
WATCH | Nevada SPCA: Surveillance video of illegal animal abandonment
"Abandoning an animal in extreme weather conditions is not only dangerous — it is illegal under Nevada law. The Nevada SPCA urges anyone unable to care for an animal to contact local shelters, rescues, or animal control agencies for help. There is always a better option than abandonment," the Nevada SPCA said in a press release earlier this month.
As for Klondike, he is now available for foster or adoption at The Animal Foundation. A shelter spokesperson tells us Klondike has since "come out of his shell" and revealed himself to be "a sweetheart who likes attention, affection, and praise."
"The Klondike we met when he first arrived is nothing like the sweet, brave boy we know today," the spokesperson wrote in an email.
However, The Animal Foundation adds that Klondike still shows nervous behaviors and "needs time to trust." The shelter notes that Klondike would likely do best in a quiet, calm environment where he can "decompress and become his best self."
