According to Assistant Sheriff Fred Haas, the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Sergio Flores, was armed with a semi-automatic shotgun. During the briefing, police played video of the suspect firing a set of three rounds before firing another three rounds before officers arrived. According to Haas, the suspect fired a total of nine rounds during the incident.

When officers arrived, they were heard giving commands to the suspect to drop the weapon, but he "refused to comply," Haas said. According to police, officers used a low-lethal shotgun, which struck the suspect, but he remained armed.
The suspect eventually shot towards officers from behind an electrical box in the area, Haas said. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect. He was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Haas, the three officers fired a combined 13 shots in the incident.

The officers involved were identified as Marcos Vega, Gianni Rivera and Jhovany Romo, who are all assigned to the Community Safety Division of the Northeast Area Command.
LVMPD said Vega, 28, has been with the department since 2020; Rivera, 28, has been employed with LVMPD since 2021; and Romo, 33, has been with the department since 2023.
According to LVMPD, the three officers have been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident.
