LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The extra $600 in unemployment is what many people were hoping to see last week, but for Nevadans, many are still waiting for that payment and more.

Some Nevadans, who have filed claims, told 13 Action News that they have still not seen a dime of help.

For George Townsend, it's been a constant struggle for the last four months.

Townsend and his wife were Lyft drivers and say they have not received any unemployment money.

"It's getting to the point that in three days my phone will be cut off. My wife and I are four months behind in rent, five months behind in gas and utility bills. It's gotten to a point that it is becoming a damper on our relationship," said Townsend.

He also says he's aware of the issues that the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation has been facing, but the department needs to do more to fix its payment issues.

"I've never seen this sort of disregard for human life, as far as unemployment. I've never filed unemployment in my life, I've always been a hardworking citizen and I take pride in that," Townsend said.

DETR has a couple of more days to make the last $600 payment, and for those waiting, Townsend wants them to know they're not alone.

"DETR really needs to step up to the plate and be that shoulder that people can lean on because it can always get worse. Who's to say that in five months there aren't people on the street crying, and they're crying because their kids are homeless," Townsend said.

13 Action News reached out to DETR for an update on the missing $600 payment, but no immediate response was received.
