LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — In January of 2016, the Las Vegas Sands kicked off the Raiders to Las Vegas talk sending a tweet showing CEO Sheldon Adelson meeting with raiders owner mark davis.
Both quickly going on the offensive, making the first presentation to the Southern Nevada tourism infrastructure committee just two months later.
The group asking for tax dollars to pay for the stadium and Davis then carrying the ball closer to midfield himself when he told that committee he was dedicated to Las Vegas just a month later.
Eventually state lawmakers got Las Vegas in scoring position approving the 1.9 billion dollar plan.
Also passing the bill needed to fund the $750 million public portion of the stadium.
The effort to bring the raiders sent backwards when Oakland city leaders worked to keep the team in California and Adelson along with Goldman Sachs announced they were pulling out of the deal.
Fast forward to 2020....The entertainment capital of the world is now the new capital city of Raider Nation.
