LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Vegas Golden Knights selected forward Brendan Brisson 29th overall on the first day of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

The team made their selection from the Vegas Golden Knights NHL Draft Command Center at Rock Creek Cattle Company in Deer Lodge, Montana because the draft is being held virtually.

NHL sets target date of Jan. 1 for 2020-21 regular season

Brisson recorded 59 points (24 G, 34 A) to go with 50 penalty minutes in 45 games for the Chicago Steel (USHL) during the 2019-20 season.

During his 2018-19 campaign with the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL), Brisson finished with one goal in six games. He slated to play the 2020-21 season at the University of Michigan.

Brisson and Vegas Golden Knights GM Kelly McCrimmon talked about why they were so excited about Tuesday's pick.

"Our staff's job is to project who's going to turn out to be the best players 3-5 years from now, and they're really excited about how high his ceiling will be. He's a talented offensive player," McCrimmon said.

"When I heard my name selected by Vegas, the Knights, I don't even know the words that can describe the way I felt. Honestly, my whole body went numb and I'm just looking forward to waking up the next morning, getting better, and hopefully become a Golden Knight, wear the Golden Knight uniform soon," Brisson said.

Brisson just started his freshman year at the University of Michigan, so it will be at least a year before he suits up for the Golden Knights.

The 2020 NHL Entry Draft continues on Wednesday with draft coverage starting at 8:30 a.m. Vegas time on the team's social media channels.
