The Springs Preserve celebrated Black History Month with music, food and dance Saturday.

"In our Las Vegas, we have many heroes and sheroes who have worked over the year to make Las Vegas a warm and welcoming place for all," said Nicole Lise, the festival's vice chair.
Organizers also recognized the late Stella Mason Parson, the first African-American woman to graduate from college in Nevada. The former Clark County school teacher graduated with a bachelor's degree from University of Nevada, Reno, and a master's from UNLV. She died last summer.
