To culminate the NPHY Plastic Food Drive, the nonprofit Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth and University of Nevada Las Vegas are teaming up for one final push with “Tailgate for a Cause” to collect fast food restaurant and grocery store gift cards to make it easier for homeless kids to eat a hot meal during the holidays.

The goal of the annual drive and NPHY-UNLV partnership is to raise $25,000 in food gift cards to feed the more than 11,000 estimated homeless teens in Clark County and generate awareness about the plight of youth homelessness.

The “Tailgate for a Cause” party before the UNLV-San Diego State football game includes food, fun, games, a raffle and chili contest. Entry is free, but those who bring fast food or grocery store gift cards or other donations will be eligible to win food, game tickets and other prizes. For just a $10 donation, attendees can sign up to judge the chili contest. UNLV’s Hey Reb mascot and cheerleaders are expected to attend.

Following the tailgate party, NPHY staff will distribute the gift cards to homeless teens through its Drop-In Center, Safe Place Mobile Crisis Intervention, Independent Living Program, outreach efforts and other touchpoints.

This is the ninth year NPHY has held the Plastic Food Drive for local homeless teens who wonder where their next meal is coming from and may not have access to stable shelter, microwaves or stoves.
