LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — "Take what you need, leave what you can."

That's the message of a project taking shape downtown.

There's now a community fridge to help local families in need.

It was started by John Chou who volunteers at local food distribution sites.

He says he wanted to do something to help those who can't make it to food banks or wait in the long lines.

Chou says it was a struggle finding businesses to partner with but the United Movement Organized Kindness group stepped up.

Another resident donated the fridge and volunteers helped set it all up.

The Las Vegas Town Fridge is located near Main Street and Washington.

Chou hopes this will inspire other people to donate their food waste and start community fridges of their own.
