North Las Vegas city officials say it will be another year before permanent traffic signals are up at an intersection where a 14-year-old boy was killed and another was injured.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports city officials say they have been working on getting traffic signals at the intersection of Centennial Parkway and North Fifth Street more than a year before the wrong-way driver hit the teens last month.

Currently, the intersection has temporary signals and several concrete and plastic barriers meant to control traffic.

According to North Las Vegas police, Elijah Coggins and Trevor Dodd were struck by the driver while they were walking on an underdeveloped section of the street that doesn't have any sidewalks.

The driver was not charged.

City spokeswoman Delen Goldberg says designs for the permanent traffic signals are nearly complete.
