UPDATE MARCH 9: The North Las Vegas police officer involved in a shooting after a chase hasbeen identified as Jarrett Feldman. He has been employed with the North Las Vegas Police Department since July 2006 and has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

UPDATE MARCH 5: Police in North Las Vegas say a suspected DUI test is what led to a high-speed chase and a shooting involving an officer on Wednesday.

Officers were investigating a crash near CSN's North Las Vegas campus, near Cheyenne Avenue and Van Der Meer Street, around 7:30 a.m. when they say 26-year-old De Jahn Lee Washington parked his car and approached them. Washington told the officers he had information about the crash they were investigating.

Police say he smelled like alcohol and so they asked him to do a field sobriety test since he got out of a car to speak with them. He refused, police say, and ran back to his car.

One of the officers tried to pull Washington out of the driver's seat as another gave him commands to stop, according to authorities.

During the struggle, police say Washington drove the car towards the officer giving commands. That officer then fired several shots at Washington as he tried to drive away.

The officers got in their patrol vehicle and followed the car.

Police say Washington reached 120 miles per hour on northbound Interstate 15 as he fled from the officers, who say they ended the chase out of concern for safety.

Washington then tried to exit the freeway onto southbound Lamb Boulevard but rolled his vehicle and crashed with another car.

He left the scene, police say, running to a nearby business. That's where he was apprehended by officers.

Washington faces several charges, including: resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon, assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon, and driver disobeying a peace officer, endangering other persons or property.

The officer involved in the shooting will be identified within 72 hours.
