LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police say that officers observed a man with a gun inside a vehicle in a parking lot on East Lake Mead Boulevard near Pecos Road shortly before 1:30 a.m.

They attempted to stop him but he took off.

A short time later, officers in an unmarked car saw the man's vehicle pull into a convenience store parking lot at the corner of Craig Road and Jones Boulevard.

The man was seen running into the store and into its bathroom.

Police say the store clerk saw officers outside and began to exit the store when he heard a gunshot coming from the bathroom.

Officers set up a containment field and called in SWAT and negotiators.

When they made entry to the bathroom they found the man suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police say. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Clark County coroner will release the name of the man after notification.
