Pack your patience if driving to California today

UPDATE 3:45 P.M.: It's still slow going to California this afternoon. 

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. Nevada Highway Patrol is suggesting alternate routes for those traveling to California. 

UPDATE 10:30 A.M. Vehicles are moving approximately 30 to 40 miles per hour. The delays are expected to continue until 8 p.m. tonight. McCarran International Airport is also expected to be busier than usual today.

Drivers headed to California today should be prepared for traffic delays.

The Regional Transportation Commission tweeted that traffic was backed up for 16 miles at 8:20 a.m. Sunday.

RTC Southern Nevada expects traffic to be heavy until 8 p.m. tonight. Drivers can expect delays between 1 and 2 hours.

Approximately 300,000 people visited the Las Vegas valley for Thanksgiving weekend. A large number of those people drove from California and other states.
