No excuse for drinking and driving on New Year's Eve

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — New Year's Eve and the following morning are the most dangerous time of year for drivers in Las Vegas.

Officials say that are 70% more DUI-related crashes on the holiday than any other time of the year.

Last year, 23 people were arrested for DUI. There were 22 crashes and 3 hit-and-runs. Two police officers were also hit by a suspected impaired driver.

Local law enforcement will be stepping up patrols to help everyone get home safely and Zero Fatalities is doing its part to keep drivers and other safe. They are contributing $20,000 so that revelers can receive $5 off of Lyft rides with the code LASNYE.

The Regional Transportation Commission is also offering free rides on the city's buses.
