LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A New York grandmother who disappeared nearly two weeks ago while visiting a longtime friend in Las Vegas has been found dead near Harry Reid International Airport, sources confirmed to Channel 13.
WATCH | Alyssa Bethencourt has the details:
Alisa Goods, 63, disappeared Aug. 8 after leaving the home of a longtime friend to go shopping.
Her body was found early Thursday near Terminal 1 at Harry Reid International Airport.
Officers responded to the area around 1:45 a.m. after a body was discovered.
Our newsroom has also learned that investigators found surveillance video from Aug. 8, the same day Goods disappeared, showing a woman believed to be Goods near the airport that afternoon.
Goods had last been known to have made it to a CVS near Paradise Road and east Harmon Avenue. Her family spent nearly two weeks trying to determine where she went after leaving the store.
It remains unclear how Goods ended up at the airport or how she died.
"Our hearts are broken. We were notified that my aunt was found—unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be. This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now. We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. We also want to thank the media for helping bring attention to this situation. This hurts so deeply. We are still trying to learn the details surrounding her death. We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we grieve."
Goods disappeared while visiting longtime friend
Goods, a grandmother of five from New York, was visiting a longtime friend in Las Vegas when she disappeared.
Her family said Goods left the friend's home on the afternoon of Aug. 8 and made it to a nearby CVS.
After that, the trail went cold.
Goods was reported missing two days later.
As the search stretched on, members of Goods' family traveled to Las Vegas looking for answers. Missing-person flyers with Goods' picture were also posted throughout the area.
Mysterious messages sent from Goods' phone
Days after Goods disappeared, her family said someone began responding from her phone and asking for money.
The messages eventually included requests for Bitcoin.
Goods' niece, Alana Calloway, previously said she immediately became suspicious that the person sending the messages was not her aunt.
"It's not her. And I just kept feeling like I lost my breath. It took my breath away, I couldn't breathe," Calloway said.
The family publicly expressed frustration with the investigation as they continued searching for Goods and pushed for information about what happened to her.
Now, her discovery near the airport leaves her family with new questions about what happened after she disappeared.
Our newsroom has reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County Coroner's Office for additional information about the circumstances surrounding Goods' death, including her official cause and manner of death.
This is a developing story.
