A lawsuit has been filed against a local psychiatric hospital by the father of a 6-year-old boy who died in a fire.

The fire happened on Oct. 8. 47-year-old Renai Palmer locked herself and her son, Gavin, in an upstairs bedroom and started a fire.

The mother and son died.

According to the lawsuit, Palmer was released that same week from Spring Mountain Treatment Center on West Spring Mountain Road.

Sean Murray filed the lawsuit on Wednesday. Murray and Palmer reportedly ended their relationship when Gavin was 1 years old and shared custody of the child.

The lawsuit alleges the treatment center “failed to provide appropriate care and treatment” to Palmer.

Murray also says that the treatment center failed to warn him that his ex-girlfriend was violent and lacked the mental capacity to be responsible for her own violent and dangerous actions.
