ORIGINAL STORY 10/24: Police and fire crews are investigating an early morning apartment fire and homicide scene in an apartment complex near St. Rose Parkway.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Clark County fire were called to the Positano apartments, located at 10115 Jeffreys Street, at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday.

Authorities say a man threw a 2-month-old infant from the 2nd floor of an apartment building during an argument with the baby's mother. The infant was taken to St. Rose Hospital but did not survive her injuries.

The man, who was also the baby's father, then set fire to the inside of the apartment and left the scene in a vehicle. He was involved in multiple car crashes until he was eventually taken into custody at McCarran Airport after parking his car and a short foot pursuit.

No other injuries were initially reported by Las Vegas police in the incident. And the apartment suffered significant damage in the fire.

The man in question was transported to the University Medical Center for injuries and evaluation. He will be facing an open murder charge, according to LVMPD.
