LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Two people were shot and killed inside a south valley business Tuesday morning, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Channel 13 has learned it happened at a Smith's grocery store in the 9700 block of S. Maryland Parkway. Police say two victims, a male and a female in their mid-40s who police describe as being in a relationship, were located with apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
WATCH | Lt. Robert Price with LVMPD provides an update on the investigation:
According to Price, authorities received multiple 911 calls around 11:30 a.m. about a shooting inside the business. Price says when police arrived, three individuals were seen subduing the suspect, who a source with LVMPD identifies as 43-year-old Alejandro Alfonso Estrada.
Price says the male suspect was in a previous relationship with the female victim and the two were going through custody issues. According to Price, the children were not present at the time of the shooting.
The suspect, who police say was armed with multiple weapons, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being subdued by good Samaritans. Price said the individuals who assisted in taking down the suspect "showed tremendous courage."
"They did an outstanding job," Price said. "They subdued the individual until we got there and we were able to take him into custody."

Hanna Manker was inside the store when the shooting happened and talked to Channel 13's Mary Kielar.
"Checking out and we heard about five or six shots," she said. "Everybody started running. I didn't know what to do so I ducked down with my kids."
Manker says she was inside the store with her two children, ages 1 and 3.
“It was not expected at all. Nothing seemed off in the store," she said. "We come to Smith’s multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day. This is your normal Smith’s … and you always feel super safe.”

We are cooperating with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, who have secured the store and parking lot. The store will remain closed while the police investigation continues.
We are deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence. The entire Smith’s family is offering our thoughts, prayers and support to our associates and customers.
