Authorities were originally called to a residential area near the intersection of San Miguel Avenue and Coleman Street, south of Craig Road, at about 6 p.m. on Jan. 9 with reports of a shooting.

North Las Vegas police spokesman Aaron Patty said that arriving officers located 16-year-old King with a gunshot wound at the scene. He was transported to the University Medical Center but was pronounced deceased from his injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicated that Griffin along with another unidentified person met with King and a friend to purchase marijuana.

The suspect then allegedly shot King before leaving the scene with the other person and before police arrived.

Detectives from North Las Vegas located and arrested Griffin.

Anyone with further information on the incident was urged to contact North Las Vegas police at 702-633-9111.
