LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police identified the officer who was involved in a shooting in Summerlin from over the weekend.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reports Sgt. Douglas King, 34, as the officer involved in the shooting that took place on Sept. 6 in the 10300 block of Timber Willow Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and Hualapai Way.

Authorities say they were called to the neighborhood just after 9 p.m. for a domestic dispute.

When they arrived they heard a woman screaming.

Police say an officer saw a man attacking a woman with a knife through a screen door. That's when Sgt. King shot and killed the man, according to LVMPD.

The woman was taken to the hospital and was expected to survive.

Sgt. King has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of the incident. He has been employed with the LVMPD since 2004.
