LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police and SWAT were on the scene in a Las Vegas neighborhood Monday night after reports of a man on the roof of a home with a knife cutting himself.

The first call about the man came in around 9:07 p.m. according to Lieutenant David Gordon with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Gordon said a couple who live in the 3600 block of Seneca Circle were out in their backyard when the woman noticed a man on the roof of their home.

She called for her husband who then went back inside the home and grabbed a gun.

Lt. Gordon said the man fired at least two warning shots into the air and that's when the man jumped from their roof to a neighboring roof and could be seen stabbing himself with a knife.

Police were called.

Officers tried talking to the man, but after no real progress was made and because of how high up the man was SWAT was called in. The man was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. and taken to a hospital.

Lt. Gordon said six homes were evacuated as a precaution and people living in a dozen other nearby homes opted to shelter in place.
