LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Las Vegas police say two people are dead and a third person faces DUI charges following a crash in the northeast part of the valley early Friday morning.

Authorities responded to the crash on North Lamb Boulevard and Cecile Avenue, near Cheyenne Avenue, shortly before 6 a.m.

Investigators say a 2015 Nissan Rogue driven by 23-year-old Avery Nellems crossed the centerline of North Lamb Boulevard entering the southbound lanes of travel.

The front of the Rogue then crashed into the front of a 2015 Nissan Versa, police say.

Nellems was transported to University Medical Center's Trauma Unit for medical treatment. Police documents show minor injuries.

According to police, the two people in the Versa -- a 47-year-old driver and a 30-year-old passenger -- were pronounced dead on the scene.

Their identities will be released by the coroner's office.

Police say Nellems showed signs of impairment and was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center for two counts of Driving Under the Influence Resulting in Death.

The two deaths in this crash mark the 36th and 37th traffic-related deaths in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for the year 2021.

The crash remains under investigation.
