LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A month has gone by and the family of a young boy, who drowned, continues to look for ways to make up for the funeral costs.

A car club called Riderz4Life in Las Vegas hosted a car wash for the Herring family on Sunday in honor of Marvin Herring III.

The 9-year-old boy drowned in a Henderson pool, his father wore a t-shirt and a dog tag with a baby photo of his beloved son.

"I got this shirt made for my son for after the funeral. It's something to remember him by," says Marvin Herring Jr.

Herring told 13 Action News "my boy" was laid to rest in June and that the funeral cost left the family struggling with no money.

"It took a beating on us, [on] the family. Physically, emotionally, and financially."

He also says his family and friends continue to mourn the loss of Marvin III.

"We are still trying to heal minute by minute. Day by day," says Herring.

Car club Riderz4Life is offering some financial relief by doing a car wash on Sandhill Road and Desert Inn Road.

Within the first couple of hours about 10 cars were washed.

Ramiro Alonso is the president of Riderz4Life, he says they’re all about “helping others in need.”

"This is what we do all the time. Help raise money," says Alfonso.

Despite triple digit weather, club and community members helped washed cars. All the money from the event will go directly to the Herrings.

"This is Vegas and we are Vegas strong. A lot of times, when people lose a love one they take it really hard. So, for us, strangers, it [gives] them hope. It shows them that people care,” say Alfonso.

"It's always good to know there's still real people out there that actually care even for a child they didn't even know," says Herring.
