Police say the preliminary investigation revealed that an older model Kia Rio was traveling westbound on Cheyenne approaching Decatur.

A bicyclist was traveling eastbound on the north sidewalk of Cheyenne. The bicyclist, for reasons unknown at this time, rode off the sidewalk and into the westbound travel lane of Cheyenne, where he was struck by the Kia.

The bicyclist then became trapped underneath the Kia. Several witnesses to the crash ran to the Kia, lifted the vehicle onto its side, and pulled the bicyclist free.

The bicyclist was a 49-year-old man. The driver of the Kia is a 58-year-old woman.

The driver was also transported to a local hospital and is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

Authorities say speed and impairment are not believed to be factors at this time.

Westbound lanes on Cheyenne were closed from Decatur to Valley View but have since reopened.

The identities of the bicyclist and driver have not yet been released.
