Officers will be out in full force and focused on identifying and addressing distracted driving violations to reduce crashes and improve roadway safety throughout the community.
Throughout the enforcement period, NLVPD officers will conduct high-visibility patrols and targeted traffic enforcement operations focused on drivers engaging in distracted behaviors, particularly the use of handheld electronic devices while operating a vehicle. Officers will also take an educational approach by informing motorists about the dangers and legal consequences associated with distracted driving.
The city issued nearly 450 citations for distracted driving in 2025, which includes drivers texting, calling, or having their view blocked. So far this year, more than 100 citations have been issued.

Jeannie Dickens has lived in North Las Vegas for nearly 17 years and has seen her fair share of distracted drivers moving through the city.
"Oh, a lot of times, a lot of times, cause I have stopped to tell people, 'get off your phone and pay attention,'" Dickens said.
Dickens told me she has even witnessed crashes caused by distracted driving.

"The guy on his phone texting and ran smack up to the guy and I stopped and told the guy he was on his phone," Dickens said.
Local residents are hopeful the initiative could help keep everyone safe.
"I think it's a good thing. I think all Las Vegas needs to do it," a local resident said.

"They need to be harder, especially with the young kids," Dickens.
