LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — MORNING: It's in the upper 80s at sunrise and the low 90s are here by 8 a.m. We'll hit 100° around 11 a.m.

AFTERNOON: High of 107° with partly cloudy conditions, south breezes at 10-20 mph, and a 10% chance of a shower or thundershower. Most of the rain stays just south of the Las Vegas valley.

EVENING: Partly cloudy and warm, dropping to the 90s by 9 p.m.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy with lows in the mid 80s.

Today is the only day this week with a storm chance in the forecast; by early afternoon we'll see spotty downpours with lightning and gusty outflow winds. The most likely spot for development will be south of Las Vegas in Boulder City and parts of Henderson.

Big heat is with us this week, with highs between 107° and 110° each afternoon. We're forecasting 110° Wednesday and Thursday, which would set and tie the record high those days, respectively.

Warm nights and early mornings (mid-to-upper 80s) will continue this week.

The air quality forecast is "good" today and tomorrow, although we'll monitor for the chance that wildfire smoke from some activity in the northern Baja Peninsula of Mexico may drift our way. The smoke from the big fire around Reno will continue to drift northeast, and not have a direct impact on Southern Nevada.

We'll see 10-20 mph south breezes this afternoon, then calmer days Tuesday and Wednesday, before a windy stretch Thursday and beyond. Gusts of 30 mph on Thursday and Friday may strengthen to 35 mph Saturday and Sunday.

Sun protection is advised between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; a hat, light-colored clothing, and sunscreen are important when you're outside. The UV index is strong enough between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. that a sunburn can happen in just 15 minutes.

Forecast pollen levels are "moderate" this week with ragweed, chenopods, and grasses listed as the predominant pollen types. Showering and changing after you've been outdoors, keeping windows closed when it's windy, and vacuuming and dusting often will help battle symptoms, in addition to taking allergy medication.
