One pedestrian dead following collision on Las Vegas Strip, police say

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car on Las Vegas Boulevard Tuesday morning, according to police.

According to police, dispatchers received reports about the collision on Las Vegas Boulevard and Caesars Palace Drive at approximately 2:17 a.m.

Evidence at the scene and video surveillance indicates a pedestrian was crossing Las Vegas Boulevard at Caesars Palace Drive in a marked crosswalk from west to east against a "do not walk" pedestrian signal. Simultaneously, a white Chevrolet Trailblazer was traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard with a green traffic signal.

Police say the collision occurred when the pedestrian entered the path of the Chevrolet, at which time the left front of the Chevrolet struck the pedestrian. Arriving medical personnel determined the pedestrian sustained mortal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the collision scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the collision scene, showed signs of impairment, and voluntarily submitted to and failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.

The driver of the Chevrolet was placed under arrest and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

All northbound lanes on Las Vegas Boulevard will remain closed while the investigation is ongoing.

The pedestrians death marks the 30th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction for 2023. This collision remains under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Collision Investigation Section.
