A press release provided later this evening gave us new details into this event. According to police, two pedestrians from Mexico were crossing a private driveway in a marked crosswalk when a Toyota Camry backed up in their direction "to clear traffic congestion" on the roads. The Camry hit the pair, "pinning them beneath the vehicle."
The first pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, sustained moderate injuries. The second, a 49 year-old man, received critical injuries. Both people were hospitalized.
The driver of the vehicle in question stayed at the scene, and did not show signs of impairment. Police shared that they cooperated with their investigation.
Metro has advised drivers to expect the northbound lanes of South Las Vegas Boulevard to be closed from Paris Drive to West Flamingo Road. Avoid the area, and use alternate routes.
