HENDERSON (KTNV) — The westbound 215 Southern Beltway has reopened at Valle Verde Drive in Henderson following a deadly crash this morning.

Nevada State Police say a blue Jeep was in the center lane of the 215 when a black sports motorcycle crashed into the Jeep around 6 a.m.

The motorcycle was speeding, according to NSP.

The Jeep swerved, crashed into the center median and then swerved to the shoulder when the driver overcorrected, authorities say.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity and cause of death will be released by the coroner's office.

The driver of the Jeep did not suffer any major injuries, NPS says, and is not suspected of impairment.

At this time it is unknown if the rider was under the influence.

The freeway was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.

As of 9:12 a.m., the 215 has reopened, though there is still a backup. Average speeds are between 23 and 40 miles per hour.
