The Tark Toy Drive kicked off Sunday in an effort to collect toys for kids in hospitals.

Kids at University Medical Center and Valley Children's Hospital in Central California will be receiving the toys. Donations can be dropped off at various locations through April 9.

Last April, Coach Jerry Tarkanian's 5-year-old grandson, also named Jerry, suffered a stroke at just 5 years old. The Tarkanian family hopes the Tark Toy Drive gives children some peace of mind while in the hospital recovering.

The 5-year-old Jerry "would hold on to any stuffed animal while he was in the hospital. Fear would melt away," said his mother Amy. "It's scary to be in the hospital, doesn't matter how old you are."

Back in February, more than 700 new toys were collected during the UNLV basketball games. Coach Jerry Tarkanian coached the Runnin' Rebels for years. He died in February 2015.
