Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department hosted a free gun safety event at the Clark County Shooting Complex Saturday. They wanted to provide the public an opportunity to educate themselves about firearm safety after recent gun thefts and shootings around the valley.

In 2017, LVMPD has reported 1,800 stolen firearms. Officials say that two of the stolen guns resulted in two separate officer-involved-shootings and an unsecured firearm lead to the death of a child in the southwest valley in August.

Those attending the safety event also received a free gun lock and special pricing on gun safes and other related products.
