The Grand Bazaar Shops on the Las Vegas Strip hosted the Battle Cry for Pumpkin Pie eating contest to benefit local nonprofits earlier this week.

Teams representing Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada and Veterans Village Las Vegas howed down to see who could eat the most pumpkin pies and take home the $3,000 grand prize. After five minutes of eating – and a tense tiebreaker – Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada came out ahead by the slightest of margins.

Veterans Village Las Vegas was awarded $1,000 by Grand Bazaar Shops for their efforts.

“There is no better way to commemorate the season of giving than to help organizations that do so much to support community members in need,” said Deann Tello, Director of Marketing at Grand Bazaar Shops.
During the 1-on-1 tiebreaker, it was Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada’s Senior VP and CAO Marcus Valerio who dug deep to secure the $3,000 grand prize.

“We have 20 programs that assist more than 100,000 Southern Nevadans annually, and this money will go a long way toward helping our clients during the holiday season and beyond,” Valerio said. “We thank Grand Bazaar Shops for their generosity and hospitality.”
