Spread the Word Nevada and more than 70 Nellis Air Force Base airmen recently visited Manch and Lowman Elementary Schools and distributed more than 1,900 books.

Nellis AFB started Ruck for Reading in 2014 at Craig Elementary School with 200 books and 7 volunteers.

This year, the airmen teamed up with Spread the Word Nevada and grew the program to more than 90 volunteers and more than 2,600 books.

Uniformed volunteers visited each classroom at both schools to hand deliver these treasures to the students so they can continue to grow their home libraries.

Spread the Word is dedicated to advancing early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Southern Nevada's at-risk, low income communities. While developing a love of reading, these libraries promote future academic achievement and self-confidence, which impacts lifelong success.

Since 2001, Spread the Word Nevada has distributed more than 3.2 million gently used and new books to approximately 400,,000 low-income youth in Southern Nevada. Please visit www.SpreadTheWordNevada.org to learn more about program details or call at (702) 564-7809.
